Where: A midsized apartment in a central part of Petersburg, on the Petrograd Side. Four families live in the apartment.
What: A socket without a bulb and what's left of the switch, electric wire, twisted and wound up in electric tape; ceramic high-voltage insulators that were used when the outside lines were put in before World War II.
As we can see, in public spaces, equipment that has become unnecessary is often not removed or repaired. Its presence doesn't particularly bother anyone. Public space has a "conservative" face. A few years, perhaps even ten years, before this photo was taken, a little table beneath the bulb, used for the apartment telephone, was taken away.
